Chicago Bulls home jersey produced for use by Michael Jordan during the 1996-97 season. This jersey was never worn by Jordan, but the reason he never wore it is directly related to its provenance. The jersey has been consigned directly by the former Manager of Team Operations for Champion, the company that produced the uniforms for the Bulls. As he explains in his accompanying letter of provenance, a mistake was made at the factory with regard to the Bulls' initial team order. The 1996/97 NBA season was the league's 50th anniversary. As such, the NBA Logo Man patch on the jersey should have been changed to gold. However, through an oversight, the Bulls jerseys were produced with the standard NBA Logo Man patch. Because of the error, the order was never sent and new Bulls jerseys were produced with the correct patch. This Jordan error jersey was retained by our consignor as a souvenir and it has been in his possession since that time. It must be noted that except for the NBA Logo Man patch, the offered jersey is identical to the ones worn by Jordan during the 1996-97 season, making it an affordable and unique example for budget-conscious Jordan collectors.
The black mesh pinstripe jersey is lettered "Bulls" across the front and features the number "23" on the front and reverse. "Jordan" is lettered on the reverse above the number. All letters and numbers are applied in red-on-black-on-white tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Champion 46" label and a second "Champion" label that reads in part "96/97 Designed & Tailored Exclusively for Chicago Bulls Body Length +3." The jersey is original as issued and shows no use. Together with a letter of provenance from the consignor.
