Presented is a George "Rube" Foster signed and inscribed index card. Known mostly as Rube Foster, he was an effective righty-handed pitcher with the Boston Red Sox from 1913-17. He is not to be confused with George Foster, the slugging left fielder for the Big Red Machine Cincinnati Reds, nor with Andrew "Rube" Foster, the great right-handed pitcher, manager, and executive for the early Negro Leagues.

George "Rube" Foster was mostly a starting pitcher, and he was a key member of the Red Sox pitching rotation when the team won consecutive World Series in 1915-16. For example, in '15, the 5'7" Foster went 19-8 with a 2.11 ERA and he was 2-0 in the World Series. The Red Sox had a fantastic pitching staff in '15. Joining Foster as the main starters were Babe Ruth, Ernie Shore, Dutch Leonard, and Smokey Joe Wood. After the 1917 season, the Red Sox traded Foster to the Cincinnati Reds, but Foster refused to report and Cincinnati had to wait until 1971 to have a George Foster, the great home run hitter. The Red Sox Rube Foster was a top pitcher, with a 58-33 career record and a 2.36 career ERA, albeit one who never pitched in the Major Leagues after the age of 29.

The signed, blank index card measures 3x5". Using black, fountain ink, Foster signed his name as "George Foster" and added an inscription: "Boston Red Sox/Pitcher 1913-14-15-16-17", with the first and last inscribed years showing some minor corrections. The reverse side is blank. The card exhibits some slight darkening. Overall, the index card is hobby fresh and in stellar condition. The card has been encapsulated, with a PSA/DNA CERTIFIED AUTO GRADE "MINT 9" (85643281).
