New York Yankees road jersey worn by mound ace Andy Pettitte during the club's 2009 World Championship season. The gray knit jersey is lettered "New York" across the front and features the number "46" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in navy on white tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Majestic" label, a "50" size tag, a "2009" year tag, and tag reading "Taper." A "Yankee Stadium 2009 Inaugural Season" patch appears on the left sleeve. Pettitte has inscribed the jersey "Andy Pettitte/2009 WS Champs" in blue Sharpie (grading 9/10) on the left breast. The jersey is original as issued and displays light wear.
Pettitte was his usual reliable self in 2009, finishing the season with 14 wins (second most on the club) and a 4.16 ERA. During the postseason he once again distinguished himself, fashioning a 4-0 record, including two wins in the Yankees' six-game victory over the Phillies in the World Series. One of the Yankees' legendary "Core Four" during the club's late 1990s World Championship dynasty, Pettitte retired after the 2013 season with 256 wins and a 3.85 ERA. Our consignor originally purchased this jersey in a MEARS online auction in 2014 and the jersey is accompanied by the MEARS LOA issued at that time. A few years later, our consignor had Pettitte sign the jersey, adding to its appeal. LOA from MEARS. Additional LOA from PSA (for the signature only).
