Colorful 1939 Baseball Centennial first-day cover signed by Hall of Fame second baseman Johnny Evers. Evers has inscribed the envelope "Very Sincerely John J. Evers" in black fountain pen, with the signature grading 8/10. The original owner of this piece, which commemorates Cooperstown as the birthplace of baseball, was certainly prescient, as Evers was elected to the Hall of Fame seven years later in 1946. However, he died one year later. As a result, his signature remains scarce today. This is an outstanding example and one that would be a welcome addition to any advanced Hall of Fame autograph collection. The envelope (6.5x3.5") displays a vertical center fold, light creasing, a few small stains, and a few small areas of vintage tape residue along the borders. Full LOA from PSA.
