Displayed is a Harry Howell New York Rangers 1960s game worn jersey in a style from the 1962-63 through 1968-69 era. Howell, a defenseman, played 24 seasons of Major League hockey. he was with the New York Rangers from 1952-53 to 1968-69. He also played for the Oakland Golden Seals and the L.A. Kings of the NHL and the New York/New Jersey Knights, San Diego Mariners, and Calgary Cowboys of the World Hockey Association (WHA). Howell's best season was 1966-67, when as a New York Ranger he scored 13 goals and added 28 assists for 40 points and won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman. Howell famously said after winning the Norris Trophy in 1966-67, "I'm glad I won this year because Bobby Orr will own this trophy from now on." Howell was a pretty effective prognosticator: Orr won the Norris Trophy for the next eight seasons. Howell finished his professional career with 1,141 games in the NHL, 170 games in the WHL, and a combined pro total of 101 goals, 360 assists, for 461 points. For a time, he was a player-coach in the World Hockey Association, and later both a coach and scout in the NHL.
The jersey exhibits outstanding wear: It has eight team repairs - abrasions, scuffs, loose threads and some holes in the sleeves. There is heavy pilling inside. The jersey is all original, minus the alternate "A" patch on the front breast. On the front upper chest are tie strings. Running diagonally across the front, from top left to lower right is "RANGERS" in red lettering with white trim. On each sleeve is a red Number "3" in red with white trim. The lower inside, rear tail has a "50" size tag, and the other tag, which was next to it, has been removed. The back has "3" in red with white trim and with a 10.5" height.
