"The sun never sets on a Robert Trent Jones golf course," was a proud and literally true statement by Robert Trent Jones Sr. himself. Presented is a small book titled Golf Course Architecture and written by Robert Trent Jones, and signed by him. Because the foregoing Jones sometimes collaborated on golf course architecture with famed golfer Bobby Jones, no relation, Robert Trent Jones began to use his "Trent" middle name to distinguish the two golf legends. Born in England in 1906, he moved to East Rochester, in upstate New York, when he was five or six years old. He was a caddie and then a fine amateur and professional golfer as a young man, and he studied at Cornell University. Eventually, Jones designed or redesigned over 500 golf courses, in 45 states in the U.S. and in 35 countries abroad. Robert Trent Jones strived to build courses that made the most of the natural elements around them. He states in his little book that a golf architect must have a good knowledge of golf as well as knowledge of engineering, agronomy, horticulture and landscape design. A few of the golf courses designed or redesigned by Robert Trent Jones: Augusta National Golf Course (the 11th and 18th holes), Augusta, Georgia; Congressional Country Club, Blue Course - at Bethesda, Maryland; The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Hominy Hill Golf Club, Colts Neck, New Jersey. Jones is in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
The offered book measures approx. 5.6x8". It has thick card stock covers and 40 pages, plus numerous black & white photos and a number of diagrams of golf holes. The book was published by Robert Trent Jones, in New York City. The book exhibits a very slight darkening because of age, but it remains in EXCELLENT condition. Robert Trent Jones signed the book on the title page, in dark blue or black ink. The offering comes with a PSA LOA for the signature.
