An unusual pair of Yankee greats penned autographs on this ball. Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle have each signed on the same panel in blue ink; Maris has added the inscription "To Peter Best of Luck" above his, with the Mick signing directly below. There is some loss of the surface of this Official American League ball, but that does not diminish the importance of the signatures contained on it, as it is very rare to have just the two greats signing on the same panel. Recalling the days of the "M&M Boys," the Yankee sluggers vied for Babe Ruth's home run record in 1961 and, despite the competition, their friendship lasted for years afterward.
