More than a century old, this magnificent press pin for the 1914 World Series games held at Shibe Park in Philadelphia is a true baseball treasure. Especially so considering the fact that all the pieces are present and accounted for, which is extremely rare. The top features a broach style pin on the back, with "Philadelphia Athletics American League" on the front, with the elephant mascot and white, enameled baseball in the center. Below is the original white and blue ribbon, which is frayed and held together with some vintage tape on the back. It is also attached to the top portion with the tape. Below the ribbon is a suspended square with the Baseball Writers Association of America logo in the center and "1914" below. Around the perimeter, highlighted in blue enamel, reads: "World's Series Shibe Park Philadelphia". There is a J.E. Caldwell & Co. stamp on the back of the bottom portion. The 1914 Athletics won the pennant with a 99-53 record but were swept by the Boston Braves in the World Series, prompting Connie Mack to sell off all his best players. The A's would finish last in each of the next seven seasons, making this pin a little more noteworthy in that the franchise would not win another pennant until 1929.
