This is a Mint-condition, unused ticket in the original ticket book, for the 1958 Dixie Classic Basketball Tournament. The event featured four all-white Tobacco Road schools, N.C. State, North Carolina, Duke and Wake Forest, against four teams from around the country. Oscar Robertson and Johnny Green were amazing in this 10th edition of the Dixie Classic, although Cincinnati lost to North Carolina State in the semifinals and Michigan State lost to the Wolfpack in the final game. They punished Robertson both mentally and physically for being black and the National Player of the Year. Racism and segregation were intertwined into the college culture and years later Robertson spoke openly of spectators taunting him, calling him the obvious racist insults and throwing hot dogs at him. He was very brave and probably didn't get the same recognition or financial renumeration for breaking the color barrier as other players.
