This is one of those historic iconic items, from a culturally significant event that helped shape the 20th Century. When you list the events of the period that had a lasting influence on popular culture, this is one of them. This ball was pitched during the 1919 World Series, possibly the most important games in baseball history. This was a foul ball, caught by a spectator named F.B. Albers who attended Game 6, held in Cincinnati. According to the letter from the descendants of Mr. Albers, he immediately went home and inscribed the ball with the following information: "F.B. Albers Reuther, Ring, Rariden, Kerr Shalk (Spelling) 10 Innings - Sox 5, Reds 4 At Cincinnati - 6th game - World Series - 10/7/19." This ball has the correct look and nearly 100 years of aging that just improves its iconic desirability and historical appeal. The ink is dark and legible and is right for the decades that have passed since it was inscribed. The stats that he recorded on the ball are correct for the sixth game of the 1919 World Series held at Redland Field in Cincinnati as the two pitchers from the Reds were Dutch Ruether and Jimmy Ring, and the Sox was Dickey Kerr. The catchers were Ray Schalk for the Sox and Bill Rariden for the Reds. Ball has darkened commensurate with its age, and comes with a letter from the family who received it from their uncle and a LOA from Lelands.com.
