It was the most infamous World Series ever played. In 1919, eight members of the Chicago White Sox were indicted for conspiring with gamblers and "throwing" the Fall Classic, enabling the Cincinnati Reds to win, five games to three. Here is the official version of the pin used for the press at all games held at Cincinnati's Redland Field. The extremely rare and eminently desirable artifact features a hollow threaded post on the back with original fastener and is in EX-MT+ condition considering its age with slight tarnishing. There is a Gustave Fox Co. makers mark stamped on back, "WORLD SERIES 1919 CINCINNATI" is etched on the nearly century-old pin with "BBWA" in the center, standing for Base Ball Writers Association. A classic keepsake from one of the sport's darkest days. The 1919 World Series was the last one to be played without a commissioner as the franchise owners elected Kenesaw Mountain Landis as the first commissioner the following season.
