The umpire credited with instituting hand signals to signify ball, strike, safe and out wrote and signed this letter which is dated Dec. 19th, 1935 - two days prior to his death. Written to his wife from the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, the content references the tumor that is going to be removed from his head. He tells his wife not to worry and that he will be back home in a few weeks, explaining that he wanted the surgery performed immediately. The three pages are in EX condition with 8/10 fountain ink writing, and the letter comes with the original envelope addressed to wife with her name having been traced over. The envelope is signed "Chas. Rigler" at the return address area and the letter is signed "Your Old Rofo." Rigler is being strongly considered for the Baseball Hall of Fame.
