Even though he only acted in seven films, James Dean remains a Hollywood legend. This very rare check, completely filled out in the star's hand, originates from the time Dean was living in New York City, as it is drawn from Chase Manhattan Bank. On the front, it is dated Nov. 14, 1953, seven months after the release of Dean's fourth film "Trouble Along the Way" and made out to the star... an autograph in itself! The amount is 10 dollars and it is both signed by Dean at the bottom right and endorsed by him on the back. There are typical cancellation marks, otherwise the check is EX-MT with writing and signatures in 8/10 in blue ink. Several of these checks came out from Marcus Winslow, the son of the couple who raised James Dean after his mother passed away when he was nine. It comes with a letter from Winslow. Dean was killed in a car accident less than two years later at the insanely young age of 24, further cementing his legacy as a cultural icon.
