One of the most controversial baseball games ever played, Kansas City's George Brett had a go-ahead, ninth-inning home run nullified after Yankees Manager Billy Martin - a peerless rulebook expert - noticed the third baseman's bat had an illegal amount of pine tar on the barrel and successfully petitioned the umpires to rule him out, causing Brett to erupt. This extremely rare full ticket to that July 24, 1983 game is signed by both Brett and Martin, which is unheard of. The ticket is unused and grades EX-MT to NRMT. Both signatures are in ballpoint pen with Brett rating 7.5/10 and Martin 8.5/10. Included is a first day cover recounting the game. The Royals played the final inning under protest, and that paid off for them as the commissioner's office overruled the call on the field and forced the two teams to resume the game at a later date from the point of Brett's home run. KC eventually won the game, 5-4, 25 days later.
