"Yankee Doodle Dandy" is often played on the 4th of July, and on Independence Day of 1939, the Yankees baseball team hosted the Washington Senators in a doubleheader that was made memorable by the team's tribute between games to honor future Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig, who was suffering from the disease that would come to bear his name. This lot contains programs from each game of that doubleheader. This lot contains two programs from that memorable day in the Bronx, when a humble, upbeat "Iron Horse" famously exclaimed; "Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth." The publications are VG and GD, respectively.
