Winner of the 2004 Breeders Cup Juvenile, this attractive cloth was worn by Wilko in the 2004 Hollywood Futurity. The cloth is from the son of 1998 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Awesome Again, and a grandson of the US Champion Two Year Old Colt Deputy Minister. Wilko was co-owned by Canadian businessman John Paul Reddam and Susan Roy. After starting his racing career in the United Kingdom as a two year old, he was brought to the US to compete in the 2004 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Although he went to the gate at odds of 28.3-1, Wilko won the contest under the guidance of European-based jockey Lanfranco Dettori, and in the process besting 2005 Preakness and Belmont Stakes winner Afleet Alex by a length. During his three-year old season Wilko finished sixth in the 2005 Kentucky Derby and then the following year he placed in the 2006 Dubai World Cup behind Electrocutionist for a cool $1.2 million check. The fabric at hand is from the runner’s last race as a two year old, namely the Hollywood Futurity (G1) in which he came third to future 2005 Kentucky Derby bomber Giacomo and running in the place spot that day was that year’s Champion Two Year Old Colt Declan’s Moon. His final record was 29/3/3/10 and earnings of $2,435,133 on the track during his career.
