Presented is an April 12, 1947, Brooklyn Dodgers' Ebbets Field scored program/scorecard of a pre-season exhibition game between the Dodgers and the New York Yankees when Robinson got his first hit as a Dodger. IN 1946, Robinson had excelled at Montreal, one of the Dodgers' two top farm clubs, but in late spring training of 1947, Robinson still officially played for Montreal. With Montreal, he played against the Dodgers that spring, but not yet for them. Then, on April 10, 1947, Robinson's contract was purchased by the Dodgers from Montreal. The Dodgers normally played the Yankees in a series of three exhibition games in New York City, with games at both Yankee Stadium or Brooklyn's Ebbets Field, and Robinson played for the Dodgers against the Yankees on April 11, 1947, but he did not get any hits. On April 12th, Robinson started at first base and batted sixth for the Dodgers in the game at Ebbets Field.

The offered program/scorecard measures 6.6x9.8 ", and it has 16 pages, including covers. In part, the front cover reads, "Official Program and Score Card 10 c[ents]/1947 EBBETS FIELD Brooklyn Dodgers". The scorecard section of the offering comprises pages 8-9. The program was scored in black ink by an unknown hand. Robinson flied out in the 2nd inning, singled, but was erased by a double play, in the 4th inning, and drew a base on balls and was again erased by a double play, in the 7th inning. According to the scorecard, Robinson played the entire game. The Yankees won by an 8-1 score. Hall of Famers Phil Rizzuto 9at shortstop) and Yogi Berra (in right field) played for the Yankees. Jackie Robinson's call-up to the Dodgers' roster was so recent that he was not listed in the printed program but was written in by hand. The scorecard shows Robinson's first hit as a Dodger, and it was against the New York Yankees, whom the Dodgers would meet later that season in the World Series. Robinson went hitless in his first regular season game, at Ebbets Field three days later, but he had a terrific first year, batted .297, led the NL in both steals (29) and sacrifices (28), and was on his way to a Hall of Fame career.

The program exhibits some minor darkening, from the passage of years. The program has a few small, stray ink marks, some small paper loss, a few small, partial tears, and some loose staples. For a 78-year-old program/scorecard, the offering is in very good condition, and it presents well. It provides a great remembrance of Jackie Robinson being on the cusp of breaking the modern, Major League color barrier.
