Displayed is a circa late 1940s-early 1950s album page with an early signature of Boston Braves Hall of Fame left-hander Warren Spahn and the autographs of six additional players from Boston's two modern Major League teams, the Braves and the Red Sox. The album page comes from an autograph album that originated from a Boston Red Sox batboy. Spahn pitched 21 Major League seasons: Boston/Milwaukee Braves (1942, 1946-64), New York Mets (1965), San Francisco Giants (1965). He served in combat while in the U.S. Army during World War II, and he was in the Battle of the Bulge and won a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. While with the Boston Braves, Spahn and right-hander Johnny Sain became famous as the Braves' top starters, and the saying, "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain" became famous during Boston's pennant winning season in 1948. Spahn had a lifetime record of 363-245 with a 3.09 ERA. He was a 17-time All-Star, a Cy Young winner (1957), and a 3-time NL ERA champion. Other signatures on the album page: Mel Parnell, Boston Red Sox; Ellis Kinder, Boston Red Sox; Johnny Hopp, Boston Braves; Hal "Skinny" Brown, Boston Red Sox; Charlie Maxwell, Boston Red Sox.

The album page measures approx. 4.35x6". It has seven machine-made circular holes at the top to allow the page to be placed in an autograph book. The page shows some minor darkening and light foxing at the edges. An unknown hand has printed, in black ink, "Boston Braves - Sept. 21, 194 [sic]" at the bottom of the page. The missing numeral at the end of "194" [sic] has been printed in pencil, by an unknown hand, as "6." It appears that the autographs on the page may have been gathered over an undetermined period of time. The autographs are in blue or black ink, mostly from a ballpoint pen. The signatures average about 8/10. The offering comes with a PSA LOA for the signatures. This same Lelands' Auction features more pages from this album, with signatures from other notable players and teams.
