Roger Maris is most remembered for his 1961 season, when he broke Babe Ruth's single-season home run record of 60 by hitting number 61 on the final day of the regular season. Presented is a 1978 TCMA Stars Roger Maris signed. baseball card. Maris had a perfect left-handed swing for Yankee Stadium's short right field porch, but he was more than just a slugger. Maris had good speed, and he was a heady baserunner. In right field, Maris had a powerful and accurate arm, and he got good jumps on balls hit in his territory. When Mickey Mantle was out of the Yankee line-up, Maris would often play center field and do well.
Injuries and illness diminished and finally cut short his career, but Maris had fine peak seasons. Many fans might know that he was the AL MVP in both 1960 and 1961, and in addition to his 61 home runs in '61, Maris led the AL in runs (132) and RBIs (141).
The offered signed MCMA card has a color photo of Maris holding a bat, with the famed frieze of Yankee Stadium in the background. The back of the shows, in part, "THE 1960's/ROGER EUGENE MARIS/New York Yankees". The card measures 2.5x3.5". Maris signed with a blue (bordering on purple) fine-tip marker, with a flowing script - really a beautiful autograph. The signed card is in EXCELLENT condition and the offering comes with a PSA/DNA LOA for the signature.
