Presented is a circa 1961-62 rare, vintage Mickey Mantle-Roger Maris white tee shirt. In '61, Mantle and Maris engaged in a simultaneous race to break Babe Ruth's single-season home run record of 60 round-trippers. Mantle missed substantial time late in the season with a hip abscess, and Maris went on to break the Bambino's record on the last day of the regular season when he homered off the Boston Red Sox pitcher Tracy Stallard at Yankee Stadium. According to many media accounts, Mantle and Maris were feuding rivals during the '61 season, but actually they were friends and roommates sharing an apartment in Queens, New York City. While Mantle went on to the Hall of Fame, Maris had a career significantly shortened by illness, and he finished his career with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1968.

These tee shirts were manufactured by Norwich Uni-Wear, and they were sold just across the street from behind right field at Yankee Stadium, at Manny's Baseball Land, located at 831 River Road until 1978, when they moved to New Jersey. The shirt has a neck tag reading, "Norwich/100% cotton/[size] 2." At the bottom of the shirt is "(c) UNI-WEAR INC." The shirt could be worn by a small child. The shirt has silkscreened likenesses of both Mantle and Maris in a batting stance, headshots of both players, and each slugger's facsimile autograph. The shirt has an approx. measurement of 9" across at the bottom and 12" in height, and the distance across from the end of each short sleeve to the end of the other short sleeve is approx. 15". The tee shirt is in EXCELLENT condition.

Also presented are two circa 1961-62 rare, vintage Mantle-Maris souvenir items: a white, long-sleeved sweatshirt and a white, short-sleeved tee shirt. Manufactured by Norwich Uni-Wear, the shirt has a neck tag reading, "Norwich/100% cotton/[size] 14." At the bottom of the shirt is "(c) UNI-WEAR INC." The shirt could be worn by a very small child. The shirt has silkscreened likenesses of both Mantle and Maris in a batting stance, headshots of both players, and each slugger's facsimile autograph. The shirt has an approx. measurement of 14" across at the bottom and 17" in height, while the distance across from the end of each short sleeve to the end of the other short sleeve is approx. 22". The tee shirt has a few tiny spot stains, but it is in overall EXCELLENT condition.

The sweatshirt has the same design as the tee shirt: The sweatshirt has silkscreened likenesses of both Mantle and Maris in a batting stance, headshots of both players, and each slugger's facsimile autograph. The 100% cotton sweatshirt has a neck tag showing size "16/Large." The sweatshirt has a few stains on the lower left front, a few tiny stains on the left sleeve, and a very light stain near the top front. The sweatshirt has an approx. measurement of 14.5" across at the bottom and 18" in height, and the distance across from the end of each long sleeve to the end of the other long sleeve is approx. 47".

The offered four-page programs are not the traditional game program sold at a ballpark that lists each team's roster and has a section to score the game. The offered program was an additional added program that was given to the fans for the special Mickey Mantle Day celebration. The Mantle Day programs measure 8.4x11.3". The cover has a small color image of a young Mantle, in uniform and created by James Bama, from Mickey Mantle's The Quality of Courage, by Bantam Books. Inside the program are ten small photos involving Mantle, a Mantle biography and extensive Mantle statistics. The back page of the Mantle program lists the day's schedule and shows that Red Barber, the great announcer, was the Master of Ceremonies. The six programs exhibit some very slight toning near the top and at some edges, and a few tiny "strands" of paper are along the spines - but overall, the programs are in EXCELLENT condition, and they each make for a fine Mantle remembrance.
