Circa 1965-69 Roberto Clemente Pittsburgh Pirates game used bat. Hillerich and Bradsby model G105 ash bat is 36" long and weighs a hefty 35.6 ounces. The uncracked bat shows terrific use with ball strikes along the barrel, minor paint transfer and general wear. Clemente's number 21 is written onto the knob of the bat in red marker, though it is faded, and "U1" is also stamped. Outstanding provenance accompanies this Hall of Fame gem, as our consignor had seats next to the Pirates' home dugout and became good friends, resulting in this bat being gifted to her. As further authentication, our consignor has presented a personalized autographed photo of Pittsburgh's legend (please note that the photo is for illustrative purposes only and is not included with this lot). Some tremendous accomplishments were part of the five-year span covered by this labeling period, including: Roberto's 1966 National League MVP season; league-leading totals of 209 hits with a .357 average in '67; and Gold Glove awards in all five seasons, adding to his astounding career total of 12. He was tragically killed in a 1972 plane crash while on a relief mission. The .317 career hitter was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973 in a special election. Includes a Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA verifying the bat's use as a GU 8.
