There's always something special about any Perez-Steele post card, and a Mickey Mantle signed 1989 Perez-Steele Celebration Set postcard is more than special; it's decidedly something extra special. Mantle, the Hall of Fame New York Yankee center fielder, was impressive right from the start. Even before he had played his first Major League game, Yankee manager Casey Stengel said that Mantle had more speed than any slugger and more slug than any speedster. Even after a series of injuries robbed Mantle of his great speed, he continued as a power hitter, hitting 536 career home runs, more than any other switch-hitter in history. To mark the 50th Anniversary of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Perez-Steele issued a special Celebration Set of postcards in 1989. This 45-postcard set of Hall of Famers included Ted Williams, Buck Leonard, Stan Musial, Roy Campanella, Yogi Berra, Judy Johnson, Duke Snider, Warren Spahn, Pee Wee Reese, etc.

The 3.5x5.5" postcard is set card #28, from set 716/10,000. The front has a smiling Mantle portrait on top and underneath, an action image of Mantle batting left-handed. On back, the signed postcard reads, in part, "Post Card/Perez Steele Galleries/Celebration Set No: 00716/10,000, CARD 28/MICKEY MANTLE Inducted 1974." Using a fine-tip blue marker, Mantle scripted a beautiful autograph, in his wonderfully, flowing, big and bold handwriting. The offering is in EXCELLENT condition.
