This is a beautiful example of Elgin Baylor's most important trading card. Because there had not been a nationally produced set of NBA cards since the 1957 Topps issue, this vivid 1961 set featured Rookie Cards of players who had become stars but had entered the NBA after the 1957 Topps cards. These wonderful rookie cards include this Elgin Baylor. Also, on Fleer rookie cards in 1961 are stars Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, and Wilt Chamberlain. Before there was Julius Erving, before Michael Jordan, before LeBron James, the most acrobatic, high-flying player in the NBA was Elgin Baylor. Elgin broke into the NBA with the Minneapolis Lakers, and he was Rookie of the Year in 1958-59. He moved with the Lakers to Los Angeles, and he was in eight NBA Finals with Laker teams. He was 6'5" and often outrebounded taller forwards. He finished with 11,463 total rebounds. As a scorer, he averaged an amazing 27.4 PPG, with a high season average of 38.3 in 1961-62.
