Extremely rare and unusual piece is a "maquette" which is a phase in the creation of art, in this case in the making of a bronze. Signed by artist Bill Herbert and marked "Del Zornada 1980." Look closely here and you can see its uniqueness. The look is haunting, with his piercing eyes and the curl of his afro. You can tell by the way it is crudely glued to the base that this was not meant to be sold. Truly unique and important work is 12” tall with only minor chips noticed. Good maquettes are quite desirable. Most desired of all are the Walt Disney maquettes created for the old animated films. Large handpainted statues were created for the artists to use as a guide and inspiration for such films as Pinocchio, Fantasia and more. They bring well into the five figures.
