The game from which this ball was used was a historic one as Lou Brock became just the 14th player up to that point to accumulate 3,000 hits over his brilliant career. Though this is not the ball used for that hit, it was used in the same game and has the handwritten date of 8-13-79 along with "3000" inscribed in Brock's hand in bold, black ballpoint pen. It was originally obtained at the game by a representative from the Ohio Baseball Hall of Fame, and the Official National League (Feeney) ball shows nice use. Despite the toning throughout, the stampings as well as the Hall of Fame Cardinal's signature are crisp and bold. Brock recorded just 23 more hits in what was to be his final season.
