One of the nicest known specimens. From the turn of the century, this beautiful cast-iron figural andiron has almost all of the paint intact (97%), depicting a baseball pitcher and batter. Incised "RBS/09" on the back, each piece measures 19" high. These are desirable prizes in the antique world and lesser sets have long been sought after by folk art enthusiasts. Includes the connector pieces that the players stand on (2), made of cast iron and measuring 18" long. The uniforms are white, one player has a ball in his hand and the other a bat. Considered an important part of the baseball antiques legacy, this rare pair is heavily coveted by baseball collectors as well as folk art and early cast iron aspirants.
