Have these historically significant items, that are of baseball, and yet transcend it. Hank Aaron came into the 1974 season with 713 home runs, one homer short of Babe Ruth's record 714. The Braves slugger had been the subject of hate mail, including death threats, as he chased the record. He also received thousands of letters of support. Aaron homered on April 4th, Opening Day, to tie Ruth. On April 8th, at home at Atlanta Stadium with the Braves, Aaron came to bat in the fourth inning against Los Angeles Dodgers' pitcher Al Downing. The left hander from Trenton, New Jersey, threw and Aaron hit the ball over the left field wall into the Braves' bullpen to reach 715. Dodgers announcer Vin Scully put the moment into a larger perspective when he broadcast, "This is a marvelous moment for the country and the world. A black man gets a standing ovation in the Deep South for breaking the record of an all-time idol." The Braves eventually won, 7-5, but the home run as well as its cultural significance, was the important story. Ticket stub is encapsulated and graded 8 (NM-MT) by PSA.
