Penultimate song from Bruce's brilliant follow up to his life changing "Born to Run", the brilliant, now classic "Darkness on the Edge of Town". Released in 1978, this was the first single released from "Darkness". This is an early, but relatively finished product of "Prove It All Night" referred to simply as "Prove It". The song was Springsteen's powerful take on the loss of a woman's virtue. Backed by the might of the E Street Band at their peak, this became an instant classic and to this day a stage favorite. Two-pages handwritten on his traditional spiral bound notebook paper, he leads with the bridge. It flows into the sultry visual, "Baby tie your hair back in a long white bow..." He uses a circled "A" and "B" to map the pieces back in the correct order. He adds a "7 songs" in the margin which may or may not refer to where he was on number of songs for the new album. He even makes a "final" correction right on there with asterisk, "From Monroe to Angeline". This (and throughout the lyric) exhibits the artistry of Bruce Springsteen unfolding before our very eyes. He even gives to us the gift of a "Cadillac" in one line, one of the most iconic of all his imagery. Sadly, it did not however make the final cut. We suppose that a "gold ring and pretty dress of blue" was enough for this particular girl. However, this little Easter egg is solely for the ultimate winner of this stellar piece. From a high-ranking member of Bruce's entourage, this will come with a LOA from Lelands. The importance and rank of Bruce Springsteen as an artist continues to climb with each new project that sets him alone as a prescient on the rock 'n' roll landscape.
