Classic image of Ty Cobb, near the end of the line. Cobb was exiled by Commissioner Landis from the Detroit Tigers because of gambling inferences that might have been true, or might have been false. the result of pitcher Hub Leonard's accusations. Leonard had a long-term animosity towards Cobb, so the allegations were suspect. Cobb was playing for Connie Mack on the Philadelphia Athletics in his final two playing seasons of 1927 and 1928. He still could hit, batting .357 in '27 and .323 in his final season. Cobb was noted for his intensity and it still shows on his face, even when he is over forty and finishing his career. This was no old man riding off into the sunset. The 6.5x8.5" photo is in excellent condition.

Fine assemblage of fresh to the market Ty Cobb ephemera. Recently discovered in the Boston area, it includes some of the finer signed photographs we have seen in all our years and some beautiful Type I photographs aq well. We believe this came from something of an industrial source and they were likely used for some publishing venture or perhaps even a card set which was never completed (more cards of this era were created in the New England area versus any other). These fine pieces will also seen in future Lelands auctions incuding a wonderful image of the classic Ty Cobb “Sliding” photograph by Charles Conlon.
