Remembered for being drafted by the New York Giants in the 1938 NFL draft but ultimately playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates (Steelers) and being an excellent golfer, Frank Souchak had a successful college football career as well. As the Captain of the 1937 University of Pittsburgh team that defeated the Washington Huskies in the Rose Bowl, Frank Souchak was named "All-American." In 1938, Souchak had similar success and was invited to play at the famed East-West Shrine Game at Kezar Stadium. The East-West Shrine Game is a special event. With history that goes back to 1925, the game is sponsored by the fraternal group Shriners International, and the proceeds are used for some of the Shrine's charitable works, most notably the Shriners Hospitals for Children. A college senior-only event, the teams consist of players from the East vs. players from the West. From that special game in 1938 comes this beautifully crafted presentational blanket given to Frank Souchak. This handsome 56x73" blanket is heavy, warm, and is in a Southwestern style with American-Indian styled patterns. The Shriners logo is large and prominent on both sides while the name "Frank Souchak" is brightly stitched in red on one end. Tightly bound with only a few small repairs noticeable, this blanket is unique and quite a find.
