The death of Benny Paret had major ramifications. On March 24, 1962, Emil Griffith challenged Benny "The Kid" Paret for Paret's World Welterweight Championship. This was their third meeting as they had split two earlier fights. Paret mocked Griffith for being gay, and then Griffith essentially killed him as Paret was in a coma for ten days after the fight until his death. This fight was nationally televised on ABC, and the networks did not have another fight on TV for many years. The teletype report was written four weeks after the fight by Jim Hackleman. The report uses phrases such as the following to decry the fight: "From all over the globe words of condemnation came.... Boxing was castigated as, "legalized murder," "revolting," "sadistic," and "criminal." The teletype report even quotes the Vatican as terming boxing "objectively immoral." The teletype report is 6x8.5". Excellent condition.
