Presidential & Political Pin Collection Pinbacks have been around since the first U.S. presidential election of 1789 when supporters of George Washington wore buttons imprinted with slogans. In 1893 the Whitehead and Hoag Co. secured a patent for celluloid which created a more durable and vibrant color printing process. Most of the pins in this collection are from Whitehead & Hoag.

The first part is a beautiful partial set of US Presidents to the day, including John Adams, James Monroe, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln (4) and George Washington (12). All are in beautiful condition, from dime to quarter-size; some Lincoln and Washington are in color, some with tassels, etc. - 34 presidential pins in all.

The second part is comprised of pins of important men and women in history thru the 19th century. High grade pins of Shakespeare, Duke of Wellington, Oliver Cromwell and many European kings, queens and military men are included – 33 pins in all.

A beautiful and interesting collection, all 19th century, most in very fine condition.
