Nice mid-grade set of Topps' iconic baseball issue in 1956! This set is difficult to assemble as a master set, as the first 180 cards appear with both white and grey backs, plus there are three versions of six of the team cards (name left, name centered, dated - plus two come in white or grey backs!) along with two checklist cards. Still, our consignor did an admirable job attempting to build it as a master; of the first 180 cards, 126 are present as gray backs while 118 are present as white backs (with all numbers accounted for). In addition, all variations of the six team cards are accounted for (all but one are the white-backed variety). Keys grade as follows: #1 Harridge (EX-MT+), #5 Williams (EX+, light crease), #15 Banks (EX-MT), #30 Robinson (EX; his last card), #31 Aaron (EX, o/c), #33 Clemente (VG+, light crease), #79 Koufax (EX+, o/c), #130 Mays (GD, 1/4" tear), #135 Mantle (VG-EX+, but crease), #166 Dodgers team (GD, crease), #200 Feller (NM, o/c), #251 Yankees team (EX, crease), #292 Aparicio RC (EX-MT, o/c), checklist 1-3 (VG, checked) and checklist 2-4 (EX-MT, checked/erased). As a whole the set grades 70% EX to EX-MT, with 15% better and 15% lesser. Total of 416 cards.
