Luciano Pavarotti was one of the best and well-known tenors in opera history. In an unusual offering with great crossover appeal, presented is a Pavarotti single-signed baseball. Pavarotti was born in Italy in 1935. His father was an amateur opera singer who was too nervous to pursue opera singing as a full-time career because of stage fright. Pavarotti loved football (soccer), and as a youth, he wanted to become a professional goalkeeper, but he was still a youngster when he switched his interest to singing opera. He made his official debut as Rudolfo in Puccini's La Boheme in 1961, and he became a sensation as Tonio in Donizetti's La Fille du Regiment in 1966 when he sang an incredible nine consecutive high Cs and thereafter earned the lifetime sobriquet as "King of the High Cs." From 1990 to 2003, while still pursuing opera, Pavarotti joined with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras to form the Three Tenors, a group who usually performed in arenas or large stadia. His Three Tenors work facilitated Pavarotti's crossover appeal with popular music. Pavarotti passed away in 2007. He has sold over 100 million recordings, and his powerful and yet sensitive voice has made him an opera immortal. Using a black marker, Pavarotti personalized the Official National League (White) ball by printing "To Andy" and he added the Italian word "caramente," which means "dearly." Pavarotti signed the ball, using a black, fine tip marker, with a beautiful autograph on the sweet spot, and inscribed 95, to indicate the year, 1995. The ball shows a few very light spots that do not interfere in any way with the inscription and signature.
