Presented is a June 12, 1970, game-scored program from the infamous Dock Ellis "on LSD" no-hitter that the Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander pitched against the San Diego Padres. Ellis pitched 12 seasons in the Major Leagues: Pittsburgh Pirates (1968-75 & '79), New York Yankees (1976-77), Oakland Athletics (1977), Texas Rangers (1977-79), New York Mets (1979). He had a 138-119 lifetime record, with a 3.46 ERA. On the 50th anniversary of the bizarre no-hitter, a Mike Vaccaro article in the New York Post thoroughly reviewed the details of the contest. In that Vaccaro piece, Ellis acknowledged that he pitched the June 12th game, a 2-0 win, on LSD, saying later, "But I was high as a Georgia pine." Former Padres' announcer Dave Campbell, then the leadoff hitter and second baseman for the Padres said, "I don't think any of us in the Padres' dugout had any clue he was throwing a no-hitter because we had runners on in every inning," (not literally true). Ellis walked eight Pittsburgh batters and hit another, so his no-hitter was far from pristine. Hall of Famer Willie Stargell accounted for both Pirates runs with a pair of solo shots off the Padres' starter and loser, Dave Roberts. Ellis later said that he could not distinguish exactly who each Padres batter was but could only tell whether the batter was hitting from the left or right side. Ellis struck out six, including the last batter, pinch hitter Ed Spiezio. The game program measures 7x10". The 64-page offering has a two-page scorecard that was scored in pencil. The scoring is basic, with groundouts scored as GO, Flyouts scored as FO, etc. The offered scored program makes a detailed remembrance of one of baseball's strangest games.
