University of Pennsylvania baseball uniform dating from the 1930s, together with an amateur uniform which we believe was issued by the Penn Athletic Club. These uniforms were worn by pitcher Charlie Simons during his tenure with the Penn baseball team and a subsequent amateur team. Both have been directly consigned to this auction by a family member (Simons' 1936 Olympic baseball jersey is also offered in this auction).

Penn Uniform: The gray flannel jersey is lettered "Pennsylvania" across the front and features the number 9 on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in faded navy felt. Red-and-blue piping adorns the sleeves, collar, and button flap. An "A. G. Spalding Bros." label appears in the collar. The jersey has three replaced buttons and is otherwise original as issued. Heavy wear is displayed throughout, including light stains front and reverse, as well as a few small tears. The matching gray pants, with red-and-blue piping down each side, feature an "A. G. Spalding Bros." label in the waistband. The numbers "9" and "13" are written in vintage ink in the waistband. The pants, which are original as issued, display heavy wear, including staining, a large hole on the rear right leg, and few smaller tears. Accompanied by the original navy stirrup socks and a vintage pair of sliding pads, both of which are well worn.

Amateur Uniform: While the family cannot state for certain what team this uniform represents, it was most likely worn by Simmons during his time playing with the Penn Athletic Club baseball team between the years 1933 and 1942. The button-down gray flannel jersey features a circular blue-and-gold chenille patch on the left breast that depicts the image of an unidentified bird. A "Passon" label appears in the collar. The matching gray flannel pants, complete with blue belt, bear a "38" size tag in the waistband. Both garments display heavy wear, including minor stains and large tear on the left front leg of the pants that has been repaired. Accompanied by a pair of royal blue baseball stirrups and a vintage non-matching pair of gray pinstripe flannel pants (heavy wear).
