Collection of 242 photographs relating to the Boston Red Sox spanning six decades (1930s-1980s). These photos originate from the personal collection of a former Boston sportswriter, who acquired most of them from either his newspaper's photo department or the Boston Red Sox public relations department. Many are news photos (including wire photos, where the caption is embedded in the photo), but publicity photos are also present. Among the players/executives featured here, either alone or with teammates, are Ted Williams, Joe Cronin, Jimmie Foxx, Tom Yawkey, Lefty Grove, Moe Berg, Carlton Fisk, Carl Yastrzemski, Jim Rice, Jimmy Piersall, Tony Conigliaro, Fred Lynn, Louis Tiant, Johnny Pesky, Joe Wood, Bill Lee, and Harry Agganis. Approximately twenty-five percent of the photos date to the 1930s-1950s, thirty percent date to the 1960s, and the remainder date to the 1970s or later. The photos vary in size, but the majority measure either 7x9" or 8x10", with the others slightly smaller or larger. Because most are news photos, many display flaws consistent with their former use, including, but not limited to, trimming, creasing, crazing, edge tears, editorial shading and/or markings, pinholes, and writing on the reverse. Six of the photos have been affixed to a cardboard mount. Please note: none of the photos have been evaluated by PSA, therefore no guarantees are made regarding specific Type designations, however, we believe the majority are NOT Type I examples.
