Displayed is a 1960, Type I original photo of Hall of Famer Jerry West that was used for the Kahn's Weiners 1960-61 rookie card. West played his entire 14-year pro career with the Los Angeles Lakers. "Mr. Clutch" played both point guard and shooting guard at various points in his career, and in his rookie season he was a shooting guard who averaged 17.9 PPG, with 4.3 AST and 7.9 TRB. In the NBA, West averaged 27.0 PPG, with 6.7 AST and 5.8 TRB. He was a key member of the 1971-72 NBA Champions and was a 12-time All-NBA player and a 5-time member of the NBA All-Defensive Team. In 1969, West's silhouetted image, taken from a photo by Alan Siegel of the branding firm Siegel & Gale, became the NBA logo and has remained so to this day. The offered photo is an 8x10" glossy posed photo of a smiling West dribbling a ball. On the verso is a stamped "Jerry West." Kahn's Weiners was a Cincinnati, Ohio, based firm that produced cards of Cincinnati Royals basketball players from 1957-65, after which the team moved to Kansas City/Omaha. The one exception to the production of Cincinnati Royals players each season was a card of Jerry West, from 1960-63. It is speculated that Kahn's included West because he was from relatively nearby West Virginia and starred at West Virginia University. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA certified as Type I AUTHENTIC.
