Original Type I color photograph capturing Pele in action during the final game of his career, an exhibition between the New York Cosmos and Santos of Brazil, played at Giants Stadium in New Jersey on October 1, 1977. Pele is pictured here as a member of Santos, with Franz Beckbauer of the Cosmos also visible to the right. Over 75,000 fans endured a driving rain storm to witness Pele's last game on that historic day. Pele played for only two professional teams during his long career, Santos of Brazil and the New York Cosmos. In a fitting move, Pele played the first half of the game for the Cosmos, and the second half with Santos. Pele scored one goal in the first half for the Cosmos, which helped them win the game 2-1. This photo was taken by a local press photographer (his field pass for the game is featured elsewhere in this auction) and represents a never-before-seen image of Pele during his historic final game.
