Pair of rare oversized George Burke photographs signed in black fountain pen, respectively, by Chicago Cubs pitchers Charlie Root and Guy Bush. Each matte-finish photo captures the respective player as a member of the Cubs, circa 1932, as they pose on the field. Burke's credit stamp appears on the reverse of both photos. These large format photos, which measure 11x14", are rare and were produced by Burke to be used as special presentation pieces by the players. Such photos were normally reserved for close friends, which is why so few are seen in the hobby today. That is likely the case here, as both appear to be inscribed to fellow Cubs pitcher Bob Smith (Smith was a teammate of both Root and Bush on the Cubs in 1931 and 1932). Root has inscribed his photo in the lower right corner: "To my pal Bob/Good Luck Best Wishes/Charlie Root," with the signature and inscription grading 9/10. Bush has inscribed the photo to the right of his image: "To my Pal Bob Smith/With best wishes from my heart/Guy Bush." Both the signature and inscription grade 10/10. The Bush photo also displays the embossed stamp of the Chicago photography studio "RDM" in the lower left corner.
