Mounted photo capturing newly-appointed Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis posing with both baseball executives and members of the Kings County (New York) judiciary following a luncheon held in his honor on June 21, 1921. Landis is pictured front and center, with Dodgers owner Charles Ebbets and National League president John Heydler standing on either side of him. All the individuals pictured are listed in print on the mount directly below the photo. The text at the base of the mount reads "Invitation Luncheon Tendered To/Honorable Kenesaw Mountain Landis/By The Judiciary of Kings County, N. Y./Pennant Day, Ebbets Field/Tuesday, June 21, 1921, at the Brooklyn Club." Landis, a former federal judge, was appointed Baseball Commissioner by the Major League owners on November 12, 1920, seven months prior to this photo. Just six weeks later Landis would ban all eight members of the Chicago White Sox accused of conspiring to "fix" the 1919 World Series, including Joe Jackson. The photo (19x6.75") remains in Excellent to Mint condition. The mount (13.75x12") displays several small water stains directly below the photo and both handwriting and paper residue on the reverse; otherwise it is in Excellent condition.
