In 1952, the Brooklyn Dodgers won the National League pennant with a 96-57-2 record, but Brooklyn lost the World Series in seven games to the team's seemingly perennial nemesis, the New York Yankees. Displayed is a 1952 Brooklyn Dodgers 40x56" Welcome Home banner, with no tagged manufacturer. The Dodgers were one year away from the '53 team, immortalized in Roger Kahn's book, The Boys of Summer. Managed by Charlie Dressen, the '52 Dodgers were led on offense by Hall of Famers: Gil Hodges hit 32 homers and had 102 RBIs, Roy Campanella had 22 four-baggers and 97 RBIs, Jackie Robinson batted .308, with 24 steals. On the mound, used mostly in relief, Joe Black went 15-4, Carl Erskine was 14-6, and Billy Loes was 13-8. The canvas offered banner measures 40x56". It reads, "WELCOME DODGERS/NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS." Some of the blue painted lettering has areas where the paint shows spots of loss, but the overall letters are clear. There are four clubhouse signatures of '52 Dodgers. The banner shows folds from when it was folded into sections for storage, but overall, it is in nice condition.
