Presented is a 1980 Wayne Gretzky first career home playoff game ticket stub from the game on April 11, 1980, in which the 19-year-old rookie scored his first NHL career home playoff goal. The stub has been encapsulated and the stub is PSA graded VG 3, POP 1, NONE HIGHER. "The Great One" was the nickname of Wayne Gretzky, and the moniker aptly sums up the amazing career of the Hall of Fame center. After a year in the World Hockey Association, Gretzky played 20 years in the NHL: Edmonton Oilers (1979-80 to 1987-88), Los Angeles Kings (1988-89 to 1995-96), St. Louis Blues (1995-96), New York Rangers (1996-97 to 1998-99). His lifetime NHL totals include 894 goals and 1,963 assists, for 2,857 points. Gretzky was a key part of four Stanley Cup Champions. He was a 9-time Hart Trophy winner, and a 10-time Ross Trophy recipient. He earned five Lady Byng Trophies and countless other honors. In Gretzky's rookie NHL season in '79-'80, he scored 51 goals and led the league in assists (86) and points (137). The Great One scored 122 playoff goals, but there was only one first home playoff goal, and it occurred at 15:55 of the first period in the third game of a Preliminary Round Playoff game at the Northlands Coliseum against the Philadelphia Flyers. Wayne scored an even-strength goal, with assists from Brett Callighen and Blair MacDonald to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead. The Flyers came back to win the game by a score of 3-2 in double-overtime, and the Oilers were eliminated from that season's playoffs, but they, and Gretzky would be back many times. The approx. 2x3.5" stub reads in part, "STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS 1980/EDMONTON OILERS PLAYOFF GAME #1/Northlands Coliseum FRI APRIL 11 7:00 ." The Pop 1, none higher, stub provides a great remembrance for The Great Gretzky.
