Displayed is an Oct. 14, 1981, Edmonton Oilers' full ticket from the debut game of Grant Fuhr, who became the first African American goalie to win a Stanley Cup. (Fuhr is both an African American and a Canadian Native American). In '81, Fuhr was only 19 years old, and he made his debut at the Northlands Coliseum, in Edmonton, Canada. Fuhr played well, although the Oilers lost by a 4-2 score to the visiting Winnipeg Jets. Fuhr allowed his first goal in the opening period on a power play, with Hall of Famer Mark Messier in the penalty box. Fuhr allowed two goals in the second period and no goals in the final frame. He played the entire contest except for 30 seconds when he was removed near the end of the game, and Winnipeg scored an empty net goal. Fuhr made 36 saves in the game. In that first season, Fuhr had a 28-5 record, with a 3.31 GAA. He later became a 4-time Stanley Cup winner with Edmonton. He had a 403-295 career record, with a lifetime 3.30 GAA. In 1987-88, while still with Edmonton, he won the Vezina Trophy. He played on the Oilers from 1981-91 and went on to play for five other NHL teams, retiring after the 1999-2000 campaign. Grant became the first African American to be named to the Hockey Hall of Fame, and he is a member of the NHL's 100th Anniversary Team. The ticket measures 1.25x5.5" for a $10.00 seat in Section 20. The full ticket reads, in part, "Game 2/Oilers/Wednesday October 14, 1981/7:30P.M./Winnipeg Jets." The colorful ticket at one point may have been folded, and it has some fold marks and some loss of surface color from scratches/folds in various areas. The ticket has been encapsulated and PSA graded FR 1.5.
