Jackie Robinson was a tremendous baseball player who became one of the most important persons in American history when in 1947 he broke baseball's Major League "Color Line" to become the first African American Major League player in modern times. Displayed is a Jackie Robinson cut signature, circa 1938-39, one of Robinson's earliest known autographs. In 1938, Robinson was in his second year at Pasadena Junior College, a four-letter winner: Baseball, basketball, football, and track & field. In 1939, Robinson entered UCLA, where he also became a four-letter winner, in the same sports as at Pasadena Junior College. Robinson was a 5'11" forward on the Bruins' basketball team, and he later became the top scorer in UCLA's division in their league. In football he was a star in both the offensive and defensive backfields, and he even did some of the place-kicking. He became a nationally known track star, and ironically, the sport he struggled with most at UCLA was baseball. In his ten Major League seasons, all with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Robinson played as a regular at first base, second base, and third base, and also played some left field. He helped the Dodgers to six NL Pennants and the Brooklyn Dodgers' only World Championship, in 1955. He batted a career .311 and was the NL Rookie of the Year in '47, and also won a batting crown and an MVP Award. Robinson inscribed and signed 'Kindest regards Jack Robinson." The cut signature, on paper or card stock, measures 2x3.2". Robinson signed in blue fountain pen. The cut signature has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO. the signed cut Robinson autograph makes a great addition to any collection because it is one of his earliest known signatures.
