Bob Gibson was one of the fiercest competitors in the history of baseball. Available is the opportunity to possess a colorful 1972 Spalding Gloves cardboard advertising display featuring Hall of Famer right-hander Gibson. Gibson was a tremendous athlete who played basketball and baseball at Creighton University and spent a season playing hoops with the Harlem Globetrotters. Gibson spent his entire 17-year Major League career with the St. Louis Cardinals, and he had a career record of 251-174, with a lifetime ERA of 2.91. He helped lead the Cardinals to the World's Championship in 1968 when he went 22-9 and won both the National League MVP and the National League Cy Young Award when he had an ERA of 1.12, the lowest earned run average since 1914, and a major factor in baseball lowering the height of the mound in 1969. The 9-time All-Star won a second Cy Young Award in 1970. In three World Series competitions, he started three games in each Series, and pitched a complete game each time, achieving a record of 7-2 with a World Series ERA of 1.89, and two World's Championships. The cardboard advertising display measures 12.5x16". The display has some tiny paper loss in each bottom corner, but overall, it is in excellent condition with an unused cardboard easel on the back. The display offers a Bob Gibson fielder's glove (either for right or left handers) for only $8.95 with a purchase. Gibson was a fitting choice for a fielder's glove because he was a 9-time Gold Glove winner. The display still has payment coupons attached to the front. The display gives a collector the ability to showcase not only one of baseball's greatest pitchers, but one of the game's hardest competitors, a man who was quoted in Roger Angell's book The Summer Game in saying, "I've played a couple of hundred games of tic-tac-toe with my little daughter, and she hasn't beaten me yet. I've always had to win. I've got to win." This is definitely the display of a winner.
