Known as "The Bus," Jerome Bettis is a Hall of Fame running back who played 13 seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Displayed is a Pittsburgh Steelers replica helmet signed by Bettis. After playing at Notre Dame, Bettis was drafted 10th overall by the Los Angeles Rams in the 1993 NFL Draft, and he played three seasons with the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams. Listed at 5' 11" and 255 pounds, Bettis was a bruising runner who was very tough to tackle. He was traded from the Rams to Pittsburgh in 1996. The Pro Football Hall of Famer was a 6-time Pro Bowler, and with 13,662 yards, he ranks eighth all-time in NFL rushing yards. Bettis has said that he got his "The Bus" nickname from the Notre Dame student newspaper, as he was noteworthy for carrying attempted tacklers on his back, as if the prospective tacklers were on a bus that Jerome was driving. Later, Myron Cope, a Pittsburgh Steelers' radio commentator, popularized the nickname. In Jerome's final NFL season, the Steelers reached Super Bowl XL, played on Feb.5, 2006 in Detroit, Bettis' hometown. With Jerome's family and friends in attendance, the Steelers surprised Bettis by allowing him to run onto the field alone when the Steelers were introduced before the game. That day, Bettis carried 14 times for 43 yards in a 21-10 Pittsburgh Super Bowl win over the Seattle Seahawks. Bettis was particularly instrumental in the 4th quarter when he helped run four minutes off the clock with 7 carries for 17 yards against a packed Seattle defense. The helmet has an NFL hologram inside. Bettis has signed the helmet with a beautiful gold signature, and he has added his number "36" and "HOF" to his autograph. The replica helmet, manufactured by Riddell, is in excellent condition.
