In the 1920s, Babe Ruth was setting undreamed of home run records with the New York Yankees, and so a store model Babe Ruth bat would certainly be appealing to young players from that era. Ruth was the preeminent baseball star of the Roaring Twenties, and he set single season home run records in that decade with 54, 59, and 60 homers. Ruth always swung a heavy bat, but as he got older, he gradually cut down on the weight of his bat. The Hillerich and Bradsby Louisville Slugger bat is a store model "40 B.R." and it was listed at 40 ounces, but it weighs 39.75 ounces now. The facsimile signature "George 'Babe' Ruth" is burned into the barrel. Although Ruth used bats as heavy as 54 ounces, an almost 40-ounce bat is still heavy. The length of the bat is 34.7", and 35" can still be faintly seen etched into the knob. The handle is taped, and there are two chips on the knob and a small nick in the barrel. Some of the grains on the barrel exhibit some deepening and some separation. Overall, the bat is in good condition, especially for one over ninety years old with heavy use. The bat easily invokes vintage 1920s baseball.
