Ty Cobb played in the Major Leagues from 1905-1928, from age 18 to age 41, and offered is a Hillerich and Bradsby Louisville Slugger Ty Cobb 40 TC bat meant for retail sale. The bat is 34.75" in length, and it weighs 38.61 ounces. Cobb, an inaugural Hall of Fame outfielder, played his entire career for the Detroit Tigers except that in 1927-28 he finished his career with the Philadelphia Athletics. Hitting an amazing .366 lifetime, baseball's highest lifetime average for players with significant playing time, Cobb took 12 batting titles and twice hit over .400. It is still a rare bat and a Ty Cobb signature model. Ty Cobb's facsimile is engraved on the barrel. The bat does show some use, but it is still attractive and in fine condition for display. "40-TC" is engraved on the barrel, and "3" is engraved on the bottom of the knob. There is some black substance on the handle that is not tar, it but could be color transfer from black tape or paint. The bat has been cleaned and does not appear to be cracked.
