Presented is the game worn hat of Eric Davis, worn during the 1980s when the center fielder was playing for the Cincinnati Reds. "Eric the Red" was his nickname, and he played for the Cincinnati Reds from 1984-91, and again in 1996. Davis played 17 years in the Major Leagues. He broke into MLB during the 1984 season with Cincinnati, and he hit 203 lifetime home runs for the Reds. He also played for five other Major League clubs. Blessed with great power and terrific speed, Davis was the first player in MLB history to hit at least 30 home runs and steal 50 bases in the same season - a feat he accomplished for the Reds in 1987 when he hit 37 homers and stole 50 bases. Davis was a 2-time All-Star, a 3-time Gold Glove winner and a 2-time Silver Slugger recipient. He was a key part of the Reds' World Series sweep of the Oakland Athletics in 1990. Injuries forced Davis to retire and he missed the 1995 season, but came back to play for the Reds again in 1996, and he won the Comeback of the Year Award. In 1998, despite battling colon cancer, Davis had a fine year for the Baltimore Orioles, with 28 home runs and 89 RBIs. The late 1980s New Era cap shows fine use. "44" is inscribed under the brim with a nice Eric Davis signature, both written in black marker. On the inside back hatband are three tags: Authentic Diamond Collection, New Era, and a New Era tag, with the size, partially obscured, seeming to read "7 1/8."
